새롭게 시작할 이유。    A Reason to start anew

 

( 사 43: 16 ~ 21 )

 

“석기시대가 끝난 것은 돌이 다 떨어져서가 아닙니다. 청동기와 철기 같은 더 나은 대안 기술이 나타났기 때문입니다.”

이 말은 1970년대 석유수출국기구(OPEC)를 이끌었던 아흐메드 자키 야마니, 전 사우디아라비아 석유장관이

남긴 유명한 말입니다.

"돌이 지천에 널려 있어도 석기시대가 끝났던 것처럼, 수많은 원유 매장량이 남아 있어도 석유 시대는 끝날 것"

이라는 뜻입니다. 자원이 완전히 고갈되어서 시대가 바뀌는 것이 아니라, 기술 혁신과 대체재의 등장으로

기존 자원의 쓰임새가 사라지게 된다는 경고를 담고 있습니다.

 

코비드 19 펜데믹 이후, 세상뿐 아니라 교회는 크게 변했습니다. 출석 교인 감소, 디지털 목회 전환,

공동체 의식의 변화 등 구조적이고 현실적인 큰 변화를 맞이했습니다. 코로나 시기를 거치며 교회 출석을

멈추거나 오랫동안 발길을 끊은 신자들이 늘어나 신앙의 개인화와 세속화가 가속화되었습니다.

소속감이 낮아지고 세상의 고통에 무딘 모습이 드러나며 신뢰도가 타격을 입기도 했습니다.

 

하지만, 새롭게 시작하는 교회들이 있습니다.

새로운 전도 방법을 찾고, 더욱 더 기도하기에 힘쓰며, 교회 통합과 상생의 길을 찾는 교회들이 있습니다.  

 

회사가 위기에 처하면 구조 조정을 통해 미래를 위한 새로운 조직으로 거듭나듯,

교회는 날마다 성령님의 인도하심을 받으며 새로워질 수 있습니다.

 

하나님은 왜 우리에게 다시 시작하라고 하실까요?

 

전에 일어난 일을 기억하지 마라, 과거의 일을 생각하지 말라고 하실까요?

 

 

첫째, 하나님께서  (               )을 시작하시기 때문입니다.

 

 

둘째, 다시 시작하면 하나님께서 (          ) 때문이다. 감사하고 찬양하라.

A Reason to start anew

 

( Isaiah 43: 16 ~ 21 )

 

 

“The Stone Age did not end because we ran out of stones; it ended because better alternative technologies—such as the Bronze and Iron Ages—emerged.”

This famous quote comes from Ahmed Zaki Yamani, the former Saudi Arabian Oil Minister who led OPEC in the 1970s. It implies that just as the Stone Age concluded despite stones being abundant everywhere, the Oil Age will eventually end even while vast crude oil reserves remain. It serves as a warning that eras do not shift simply because resources are completely depleted, but rather because technological innovation and the arrival of substitutes render the utility of existing resources obsolete.

 

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the church—much like the world—has undergone profound changes. It has faced significant structural and practical shifts, including declining attendance, a transition to digital ministry, and an evolution in the sense of community. The pandemic saw a rise in believers who stopped attending church or stayed away for extended periods, accelerating the trends of faith individualization and secularization. Furthermore, the church’s credibility suffered as a diminished sense of belonging and an apparent insensitivity to the world's suffering came to light.

 

☎ However, there are churches making a fresh start. These churches are seeking new methods of evangelism, devoting themselves more earnestly to prayer, and pursuing paths toward unity and mutual growth.

Just as a company in crisis can transform into a new organization for the future through restructuring, a church can be renewed daily under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

 

☞ Why does God ask us to start over?

 

     Why does He tell us not to remember what happened before

     or dwell on the past?

 

 

First, it is because God is beginning ( a new thing ).

 

 

Second, it is because God will ( help ) us when we start over.

           Give thanks and praise.

                            살아갈 이유(Reason to Live) 

 

(로마서 14장 7 ~ 12절)

 

 

8월 한 달 동안, 이유에 관한 말씀을 선포할 예정입니다.

2째주, 사랑할 이유(Reason to Love). 3째주, 감사할 이유(Reasons to be grateful).

4째주, 질문을 잘 해야 하는 이유(Reasons to ask good questions). 5째주, 새롭게 시작할 이유(A reason to start anew).

 

지금까지는 대답을 잘 해야 성공하는 시대였습니다. 선생님의 질문에 대답을 잘 하면 우수한 학생으로 인정받았습니다.

그러나 지금은 질문이 돈이 되는 세상입니다. 인공지능(AI)의 시대가 열렸기 때문입니다.

더욱 중요한 것은 하나님과의 질문입니다.

 

석기시대가 끝난 것은 돌이 떨어져서가 아닙니다. 인생에는 주기가 있고, 각 주기마다 새롭게 시작할 타이밍이 있습니다.

지금 우리는 중요한 전환기를 맞이하고 있습니다.

두 교회가 하나로 병합하기 위해서는 제도적인 승인 절차 외에도 하나님의 뜻을 구하는 영적인 목마름이 필요합니다.

 

9월부터 10월 초까지는 <에베소서> 강해가 이어집니다. 1째주, 한인교회의 소망(Hope of the Korean Church).

2째주, 함께(Together). 3째주, 충만(Filled). 4째주, 하나됨(Oneness).

5째주(10월 첫주), 성령으로 행하라(Walk by the Spirit).

 

에베소서 강해를 하는 이유는 한인교회의 가장 깊은 고민이 분열과 상처이기 때문입니다.

이를 예방하고, 은혜로운 교회를 이루기 위해서는 말씀의 무장이 필요합니다.

하나님의 말씀은 우리를 한 마음으로 만들어줍니다.

 

☞ 오늘은 하나님께서 우리에게 ‘살아갈 이유를 찾은’ 한 사람을 보여주십니다.

                                  Reason to Live

 

                                                                   (Romans 14: 7 ~ 12)

 

Throughout the month of August, I plan to preach on the theme of reasons.

2nd Week: Reason to Love. 3rd Week: Reasons to be Grateful. 4th Week: Reasons to Ask Good Questions.

5th Week: A Reason to Start anew.

 

Until now, success depended on giving the right answers.

If you answered a teacher’s questions well, you were recognized as an outstanding student.

However, we now live in a world where questions generate value—a shift driven by the advent of the

artificial intelligence (AI) era. Even more important, however, is the act of asking questions of God.

 

The Stone Age did not end because the supply of stone ran out.

Life moves in cycles, and each cycle brings a moment to start anew.

We are currently facing a significant turning point.

For two churches to merge into one, a spiritual thirst to seek God’s will is essential—

beyond the mere procedural steps of institutional approval.

 

From September through early October, we will be conducting an expository series on the Book

of Ephesians. Week 1: The Hope of the Korean Church. Week 2: Together. Week 3: Filled.

Week 4: Oneness. Week 5 (first week of October): Walk by the Spirit.

 

We are undertaking this series because division and wounds are among the deepest struggles

facing the Korean church. To prevent these issues and build a church filled with grace,

we need to be equipped with the Word. God’s Word unites us with one heart.

 

☞ Today, God shows us a person who has found a reason to live.
